Overview

Designing for inclusion, clarity, and usability.

This poster was created to communicate the importance of accessibility in design through a format that feels informative, structured, and visually engaging. Built as an infographic, the layout organizes content into clear sections supported by strong hierarchy, readable typography, and simplified visuals.

The goal was not only to present information clearly, but also to reinforce the message that accessibility should be treated as a standard rather than an afterthought. The final piece demonstrates how thoughtful visual communication can support a more inclusive user experience.

Context

Building on accessibility-focused experience.

This project was developed after completing my summer co-op with Shared Services Canada, AAACT, where I worked on accessibility-related design tasks including a banner for the Web Experience Toolkit and accessible video tutorials. That experience strengthened my understanding of accessible communication and informed the direction of this poster.

Bringing that knowledge into this project allowed me to approach the poster not only as a graphic design piece, but also as a practical exercise in inclusive design thinking.

Approach

Accessible formatting, hierarchy, and digital usability.

A major challenge in this project was communicating a complex ethical issue in a way that remained immediate, readable, and visually engaging. To solve this, I structured the poster using distinct content zones, strong typographic hierarchy, and simplified supporting visuals that guide the viewer through the message with clarity.

Beyond the visual design, the final piece was also exported as an accessible PDF and tested for digital usability. Alternative text descriptions and interactive accessibility features were considered to support users with visual impairments and improve navigation of the content.

The final result demonstrates both editorial control and an awareness of accessibility as a functional, ethical, and necessary part of the design process.
